THE HARMAN PRO GROUP DRIVES NETWORKED AUDIO TECHNOLOGIES INTO THE FUTURE OF THE DETROIT AUTO SHOW
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, January 17, 2008 - Demonstrating the versatility and functionality of its HiQnet™ professional audio system configuration and control protocol and also the increasing deployment of HiQnet in components of its brands, the Harman Pro Group today announced that it had supplied system integrator, Creative Technologies, with a sophisticated HiQnet digital audio and control network for the ambitious and heavily AV-centric General Motors booth at the Detroit Auto Show. The system, specified by event sound designer Jim Risgin of OSA International, employs HiQnet at its core, is controlled using HiQnet System Architect™ control software with BSS Audio Soundweb London BLU-80 processors, and features 174 HiQnet-enabled VP Series powered loudspeakers from JBL Professional.
The North American International Auto Show Detroit is one of the world's largest media events in addition to serving as the debut of many new car models and future automotive concepts. Hosting hundreds of thousands of attendees and a massive collection of media from all over the world, the Auto Show is also an event that calls for advanced multimedia, presentation, video and digital audio networks. In order to support the multimedia presentations, Creative Technologies needed an audio network that would allow audio zoning and ducking as well as vigorous control system-wide.
"HiQnet and System Architect are strong," said Tom Miller, Audio Designer, Creative Technologies North America. "In addition to the powerful flexibility of the system, pinpoint control from any location as well as global control, HiQnet and System Architect can seamlessly integrate with other products like the JBL VP Series we are using and BSS Audio Soundweb London, transmitting digital audio via CobraNet and using standard TCPIP protocol."
The network is designed to support live presentations as well as produced media at the General Motors booth, with multiple zones required to distinguish between the activities in each of the 8 GM brands contained within the booth. The zoning also allows automatic ducking of pre-programmed audio when live presenters are delivering their speeches. To coordinate everything, the network uses Harman HiQnet and System Architect to communicate with the 20 Soundweb London BLU-80s, which offer the front-end process control. These are combined with BLU-32s to provide I/O expansion. The JBL VP Series cabinets also plug directly into the network allowing operators discreet assignability of each speaker. This permits engineers and operators to manipulate individual speakers at the fringes of zones in the massive, distributed loudspeaker system to control spillover and other factors.
The HiQnet and System Architect combination transmit the audio and control the BLU-80s, which control EQ, delay, ducking and numerous other functions. The hardwired audio network is fully redundant and operates separately from the wireless control network. HiQnet and System Architect Software enabled Creative Technologies to implement one of the most sophisticated audio networks in support of a complex media program design at one of the world's most advanced marketing events.
Commenting on the deployment, Michael MacDonald, Harman Pro Group, Executive Vice President of Marketing noted, "Professional audio touches so many areas of business from retail applications to advanced multimedia presentations as evidenced by Creative Technologies' work with General Motors at the Detroit Motor Show. At the Harman Pro Group we're dedicated to making our professional audio tools better, more usable and more widely deployable in a broader range of business applications. In doing so, we'll make our integration partners more successful and help end users articulate and amplify their business messaging."
