WJHW AND PRO MEDIA/ULTRASOUND PROVIDE HONDA CENTER WITH HARMAN PRO GROUP HiQnet™ SOUND SYSTEM COMPRISING COMPONENTS FROM CROWN, BSS AND JBL PROFESSIONAL
System upgrade to 17,000-seat home of NHL team, Anaheim Ducks, couples improved sonic performance with supercharged versatility and control.
ORLANDO, FLORIDA, March 15, 2007 - When preeminent acoustic and system design firm WJHW and leading systems integration group Pro Media/UltraSound recently upgraded the sound system at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, they built a system featuring components from Harman Pro Group companies, JBL Professional, Crown International and BSS Audio, residing on a Harman Pro Group HiQnet™ network for advanced connectivity and control. Formerly the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, the Honda Center seats approximately 17,000 and serves as a multi-purpose venue - in addition to hosting the Anaheim Ducks, the Honda Center also holds numerous concerts and other sporting events throughout the year.
The design comprises four clusters consisting of various JBL Precision Directivity Series loudspeakers, including eight PD743, four PD164 and either two PD764 or PD743 (down fills) models per cluster. Each cluster includes six JBL ASB6128 subwoofers apiece. The new design also added delay loudspeakers to the system: 30 JBL AM4212/00 loudspeakers provide coverage to the upper portion of the seating bowl in the arena. The system is powered by Crown CTs Series amplifiers and digital signal processing is handled by BSS Soundweb London. HiQnet controls the amplification and processing from a single interface via HiQnet London Architect.
According to Demetrius Palavos, Pro Media/UltraSound, the integration, and intuitiveness of HiQnet facilitated an exceptionally smooth execution of a sophisticated upgrade in a very limited time window. "HiQnet was really an asset for us, since we only had six days to remove the existing system, and then install and arrange the new PA system," Palavos added. "We were able to set up the system faster and there was less possibility for error."
Palavos also noted the performance of the JBL Professional PD Series employed on the project. "The clusters in the previous system had a fraction of the loudspeaker components compared to the new design," Palavos continued. "The PD Series clusters have more impact, thanks to more low and mid-frequency coverage and greater dispersion in general. The PD Series is such a well-designed product that it performs exactly to expectations every time. Additionally, Harman has such a wide range of products that it allows the design team to select the correct products to match the venue needs. That's a tremendous advantage."
Commenting on the application, Rick Kreifeldt, Vice President Harman Pro Group, System Development & Integration Group (SDIG) noted the design at the Honda Center underscores the Harman Pro Group's unique ability to deliver performance excellence at the component level via its category-leading brands coupled with unparalleled system level integration and control enabled by HiQnet. "The Honda Center is a remarkable application of HiQnet in that it brings together the absolute best in component-level performance and system-level control to provide the designers, the integrator, the Honda Center management and their customers with clear and compelling advantages over the previous or alternative systems!" Kreifeldt noted.
