HARMAN PRO GROUP HiQnet™ SOUND SYSTEM DEPLOYED BY IPR SERVICES PROVIDES SEATTLE'S WaMu THEATER WITH THE VERSATILITY TO POWER BETTER BUSINESS
Dynamic sound system featuring JBL VERTECŪ DP Series Line Array enables quick, efficient switchover between exhibitions and concerts in multi-use facility at Qwest Field Event Center; Sound system replicates standard tour sound rider to attract, facilitate more touring acts at reduced overhead and enhanced confidence that the system and the touring act will sync.
ORLANDO, FLORIDA, March 15, 2007 - Underscoring the emerging trend in systems integration to equip music performance venues with audio systems that reflect the technologies used on the most successful music tours, leading systems integration firm, IPR Services recently installed a Harman Pro Group HiQnet™ sound system at the new WaMu Theater in Seattle. The Harman Pro Group sound system featuring JBL Professional VERTECŪ Line Array at its core will not only help attract bigger acts, but will also cut costs, increase set-up efficiency and enable the WaMu Theater to quickly transform from exhibition space to performance space.
Located at the Qwest Field Event Center, the WaMu Theater has a flexible seating capacity of 3,300 to 7,000 and has already hosted concerts by Van Morrison, Seal and All-American Rejects. IPR Services installed a system six line arrays (three on each side) with VT4888DP and VT4880DP self-powered line array elements. In total, 36 VT4888DP elements and 20 VT4880DP elements comprised the house mains, side fills and low-frequency reinforcement. The line arrays are driven from two dbx DriveRackŪ 4800. To minimize the transition from exhibition space to performance venue, the DriveRacks and network switches are flown. The DriveRacks are connected to a portable stage box located at stage left.
According to Bob Patrick, Principal of Hacienda Heights, CA-based IPR Services, the system needed to be high performing and versatile. "The biggest challenge for IPR was to provide a means to accommodate a wide variety of touring shows with specific equipment and configuration requirements. Some groups require digital audio interfaces and separate controllable feeds for fills, subs and mains," Patrick explained. "We selected VERTEC because it's the most rider-friendly line array available today. The first two concerts held at the WaMu Theater were Seal and Van Morrison, and they both sounded great."
Using Harman Pro Group HiQnet System Architect™ configuration and control software, the sound system is set up, controlled and monitored via a wireless interface and tablet PC. IPR Services commissioned Dennis Kornegay to design and develop custom programming to provide interactive control and monitoring screens to assist Fred Micera, House Engineer, in the remote monitoring of the system. These screens provide specialized global settings, EQ adjustments and a means to monitor the entire system from a wireless tablet PC. Using multiple levels of security access, Micera can provide limited system controls and adjustments to each touring front of house engineer.
"All front of house engineers want to EQ the system to their own ear," Patrick continued. "In all cases, the house engineer needs to monitor the settings and levels throughout the system. Without the use of HiQnet it would be very difficult to provide the venue with the flexibility, monitoring and control today's touring groups require."
Commenting on the application Ted Leamy, Vice President of Installed Sound, JBL Professional noted, "When designing loudspeakers, JBL Professional places a high priority on versatility and power, because we know those are the same priorities of systems integrators. WaMu Theater sound is not only a result of JBL's ability to provide these qualities, but of IPR Services' creative and intelligent application of technology to provide a high-impact, dynamic audio system."
Echoing this commitment to integrator collaboration, Rick Kreifeldt, Vice President Harman Pro Group, System Development & Integration Group (SDIG) explained, "Bob Patrick and his team have wisely availed themselves of all of the resources made available by HiQnet to provide their customer with a solution that addresses both the system requirements and the commercial requirements of a dynamic and attractive business model. It is encouraging to see HiQnet provide such tangible advantages to our contractor partners and their customers."
