MaRS DISCOVERY DISTRICT BECOMES FIRST HARMAN PRO GROUP HiQnet™ ENABLED SYSTEM IN CANADA

The groundbreaking convergence innovation center that unites science, business and capital selects the Harman HiQnet™ system to fulfill its convergence philosophy through integrated technology.

NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA, November 21, 2005 - Underscoring its mission to bring integrated audio technology to a wide spectrum of use applications, the Harman Pro Group announced today that Applied Electronics will install a HiQnet™ enabled system at MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, Ontario.

The MaRS Discovery District is a convergence innovation center located in the heart of downtown Toronto's renowned Discovery District-two square kilometers designated as the city's epicenter of innovation. Conceptualized in 2000 by leaders from the business and public sectors, MaRS is focused on building Canada's next generation of technology companies to become global market leaders. The facility opened phase one of its 1.5 million square foot space in September to position Canada for leadership in the highly competitive global innovation economy.

"The mission of MaRS is to connect and foster collaboration between our stakeholder communities," said Robert Smith, chief technology consultant at MaRS. "From a technology perspective, this extends to selecting equipment based on full convergence, future-proof framework and cutting edge technology. The Harman HiQnet network embodies this philosophy, bringing integration and control to a new level with a framework that will seamlessly evolve overtime. We are proud to be the first HiQnet installation in Canada and look forward to an innovative future."

MaRS will feature a state-of-the-art meeting and conference center with one large hall and eight meeting rooms, to be completed in January 2006. The conference area will be the hub of the facility, offering fully integrated system of audio, video and data. The system, designed and built by Applied Electronics, was structured to give MaRS tremendous flexibility for component placement and control. Podiums and AV equipment can move from room to room without losing access to the fully integrated system. According to Applied Electronics, the initial vision enabled them to design the system for optimum operability. "The original specifications were performance-based and not equipment-based," said Chris Randles, account/product manager at Applied Electronics. "This gave us the opportunity to assess the long-term needs of the facility and build an audio system with equipment that is guaranteed to perform today and easily evolve through tomorrow. The HiQnet network was the perfect solution."

The HiQnet network is the backbone of the audio system. BSS Soundweb London and Crown CTs 2000 and 600 amplifiers are configured by and controlled with HiQnet London Architect&trade. AKG WMS 4000 microphones supply the system with initial live audio from the meeting rooms. Audio is fed back to the front end through JBL Professional Control Contractor CT25, AM 4315 and SRX712 loudspeakers.

"We had a vision for the audio/video systems at MaRS and Applied Electronics and Harman's Soundcraft Canada translated it into reality with HiQnet," said Smith. "I don't think anyone in the region could have delivered the same results. They have been invaluable partners."

Harman HiQnet enables users to maximize system configuration and control of products for the entire family of Harman brands. Compatible with UPnP™ (Universal Plug and Play) standard, HiQnet allows users to quickly and efficiently connect a network of HiQnet-compatible components. The protocol enables a single software application to be used for the design of a full audio system allowing custom control panels, device and system preset recall, system-wide event logging and remote access and diagnostics to be configured just once for the entire system.

A critical aspect of HiQnet is its ability to detect which types of connections are being used in a given system. To accomplish this, the Harman Pro Group's elite System Development and Integration Group (SDIG) developed HiQnet drivers for sending control data seamlessly over any standards-based network protocol - be it Ethernet, Serial or USB.
